Global music icon and art enthusiast BTS’ RM is partnering with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) for a first-of-its-kind exhibition, ‘RM x SFMOMA.’ RM will co-curate the show alongside América Castillo, Curatorial Project Manager at SFMOMA, and Hyoeun Kim, Assistant Curator.
This historic collaboration marks the museum’s first partnership with a K-pop artist and will feature both international and Korean contemporary art pieces, many of which will be revealed to the public for the first time. The exhibition aims to highlight thematic and temporal relationships between diverse cultural perspectives through RM’s personal lens.
Opening in October 2026 and running through February 2027, the exhibition will showcase over 200 works from RM’s personal collection and SFMOMA’s archives, providing a rare insight into his artistic vision.
According to BigHit Music, the idea for the exhibition was first proposed by SFMOMA, who recognized the depth of RM’s art collection and his genuine engagement with modern and contemporary art.
Janet Bishop, Thomas Weisel Family Chief Curator at SFMOMA, highlighted the unique curatorial approach: “Visitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to explore RM’s beautiful and contemplative collection of paintings and sculpture in dialogue with works from SFMOMA’s holdings. It invites new discoveries and reflections on how we each relate to art.”
Among the featured artists are leading figures from modern and contemporary Korean art, including Yun Hyong-keun, Chang Ucchin, and Park Re-hyun, as well as international artists such as Kim Whan-ki, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Paul Klee. Several pieces from RM’s collection will be exhibited publicly for the first time.

“We live in an age defined by boundaries. This exhibition at SFMOMA reflects those boundaries: between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal. I don’t want to prescribe how these works should be seen; whether out of curiosity or study, all perspectives are welcome. My only hope is that this exhibition can be a small but sturdy bridge for many,” RM said.
RM also shared this news on his social media along with the caption, “At the end of last year, when I first heard from SFMOMA, the excitement still comes vividly to mind, as if I were sketching out countless ideas all over again. Since I began visiting museums in 2018, I’ve been learning and collecting step by step, and it feels both humbling and meaningful to now prepare this exhibition. The exhibition will bring together works I’ve collected over the years alongside pieces from SFMOMA’s collection, shaped through our shared curatorial process. If you have some time next October(2026), I would be honored if you could visit with an open heart. I will do my best to create an experience that feels enjoyable, refreshing, and worth your time. Thank you.”
