In May this year, OMEGA X introduced their first-ever subunit, OX:N — a four-member unit aiming to create a distinct identity while still being a part of the larger OMEGA X universe. Comprising Jaehan, Xen, Jehyun, and Yechan, OX:N made a smashing debut with their first EP ‘N’, led by the title track ‘YOU’. This release doesn’t just showcase their music — it also tells a story, blending past influences, present vibes, and a glimpse into the future. With clear Y2K inspiration and modern twists, OX:N is carving out a unique identity while staying true to the heart of OMEGA X.
In an exclusive interview with Namaste Hallyu, the members talked about how ‘N’ came together, what sets OX:N apart, and how they’re connecting with fans around the world.
Four years after their debut in the 11-member group OMEGA X, Jaehan, Xen, Jehyun, and Yechan formed the four-member subunit OX:N to tell a new story while still being rooted in their original group. “As soon as our unit was decided, we talked a lot amongst ourselves,” Xen shared.
There were a lot of discussions, and we were constantly thinking, ‘What kind of image can we portray to the viewers, the fans, the audience?’ So, we talked a lot amongst ourselves as well as with our company staff to make sure that we are portraying the right image as this unit.
– Xen
Even before their debut, the unit had explained that the letters in the group’s name — O, X, and N — symbolize the connection between the past, present, and future, capturing OX:N’s unique perspective and their hope for lasting unity under OMEGA X. So, it’s no surprise that with a debut album titled ‘N’, the quartet is giving us a glimpse into what their future might look like. They’ve used both their music and visuals to bring this idea to life.
“As for the ‘N’ album, we got a lot of influence from the Y2K vibe at the time, especially for the title track ‘YOU’,” Yechan explained. From bootcut denim in the music video for ‘YOU’ to the suits they wore in the album’s concept photos, OX:N is all about giving off a “classic mature vibe.”
We are reinterpreting the stuff from the past and the past trends into more modern times.
– Yechan
But beyond just fashion and visuals, ‘N’ also reflects a more thoughtful and mature side of the group. “As for when we were promoting as OMEGA X, it was more of the vibe of passionate and free, and we were more energetic,” Jaehan said. “But for OX:N, we wanted to portray that side that’s more calm and relaxed, and mature,” he added. The shift is noticeable in their music, which gives fans a new way to experience their growth.
Continuing that thought, Yechan added that the team focused on creating the right atmosphere. “We’re still keeping that original OMEGA X color and its unique sound, but we’re also trying different paths,” he said. “These days, the audience is looking for more of the vibe, rather than specific elements,” he explained.
Compared to working with the full OMEGA X team of 11 members, Xen shared how working as a four-member unit influenced their process. “As a four-member group, I found it a little bit easier to handle,” he said, noting that having fewer members made it simpler to collaborate and communicate. “We would definitely have different opinions, but the perk of being in a four-member group is that it’s a little bit easier to have a conversation,” he added.
That sense of teamwork shines through in the album, especially in tracks like ‘CAUSE OF YOU’, which Jaehan helped write, compose, and arrange. “It makes you feel good whenever you’re listening to it,” he said, explaining how he wanted to make a track that people could easily sing along to. Still, he admitted there was a bit of a challenge.
Maybe I’m making songs that are kind of similar to each other because I personally enjoy the style. So I made sure to collaborate with other producers to keep the vibe I wanted, but still make it into a fresh, new song.
– Jaehan
Behind all the polished performances and visuals, there was a lot of effort, especially with the three English tracks on the album. “Pronunciation was a big thing that we had to overcome and work on,” Jaehan shared, adding, “We are always struggling and trying to find a solution to our challenges in order to perfect ourselves.”
Each song on ‘N’ has its own feel, and the members even associate them with different seasons. “‘CAUSE OF YOU’ would be perfect for the spring,” said Jehyun. Yechan added, “‘SUIT & TIE’ would fit very well with winter… and ‘ORPHEUS’ is perfect for summer or autumn.” Xen added that ‘YOU’ could work well in spring too, while ‘LET ME IN’ gives him late summer or early autumn vibes.
Looking ahead, the group already has big goals and exciting plans in the works. “We have a lot of things on our list,” Yechan said, adding, “In fact, just this afternoon, we had a long conversation about what we are going to do for the next six months.” Through it all, one thing that’s always on their minds is meeting fans around the world, including FOR X in India.
Thank you so much for all the love and support, even far away in India. We always appreciate that, and we are definitely working on and looking into different opportunities and efforts to make sure that we can visit the country to meet you in person. So we hope that day will come soon. So please wait just a little bit more.
– Jehyun
With ‘N’, OX:N isn’t just introducing themselves; they’re setting the tone for everything they want to be. It’s a fresh start, full of honesty, creativity, and heart. And while this might be their first step as a unit, it’s clear they’re walking confidently toward a bright and exciting future.
