To be honest, the more I watch Mnet’s popular dance survival show ‘World of Street Woman Fighter’, the more I realise that there’s much more to dancing than I initially thought, especially how different street dancing is to choreographing a performance. It was also fascinating to see how each crew, as well as each dancer individually, represents different ends of the spectrum.
Episode 3 opened with the leaders going head-to-head for the ‘Main Dancer’ position and closed with the exciting launch of the K-Pop Mission. The focus on episode 4 was on performance reviews, as all 6 crews were gathered and reacted to their recorded performances. But, most importantly, this episode turned up the intensity with the first elimination face-offs. It was intense and emotional, but definitely kept us on the edge of our seats.
K-Pop Mission Performances
G-Dragon Mission
If you are familiar with G-Dragon’s MVs or performances, you can tell right away that he has a natural groove and swag when he dances. A dance performance on any of G-Dragon’s songs would require strength, amazing aura, and sharp moves, because the infectious energy of his funky songs would usually elevate any dance moves. In that sense, I think both teams – OSAKA Ojo Gang and MOTIV – did fine.
Despite their limited background in choreographing, I think OSAKA Ojo Gang rose to the challenge and did a good job. However, the way they failed to copy MOTIV’s complex breaking choreography was probably one of the reasons why they lost to their competitors, aside from the fact that their performance video scored less in the ‘Likes’ category.
aespa Mission
As long-time rivals, Royal Family and AG SQUAD have fans wondering once again: who’s going to take the win this time?
On a personal level, AG SQUAD’s performance was completely unexpected. Though they are not as strong as BUMSUP in choreographing K-pop performances, they ended up surpassing them. Their performance seriously caught me off guard. My eyes were glued to my laptop, or rather to Kaea. While some fans criticised the awful lighting and camera work, I was totally absorbed by the team’s energy and facial expressions.
While Royal Family prioritised theatrical moves and stayed true to their roots, AG SQUAD proved their versatility and impressed with their ability to adapt to K-pop style. In the end, AG SQUAD took the win.
BLACKPINK’s Jennie Mission
Videos for the K-Pop Mission were released ahead of the show’s premiere, and it was BUMSUP’s performance clip that blew up across social media. Long before the show even began, their video became the talk of the internet. Their viral clip is what probably got many people to start tuning into the show, but personally? I found it quite disappointing.
BUMSUP boasted a lineup of famous choreographers who have collaborated with big-name stars, and their setlist featured Jennie’s trendy songs, so expectations were sky-high. Yet, their performance didn’t live up to the hype. Their choreography was too soft and not dynamic at all. I’d say the main flaw lies in how all the dancers seemed out of sync, and they weren’t on the same wavelength. I wouldn’t really blame them as they were a newly formed group, as confirmed during an episode of ‘Salon Drip 2’ with host Jang Do-yeon.
However, despite BUMSUP’s being extremely clean with their angles and lines, comparing their performance with their rival, it’s clear that RH Tokyo’s creativity and originality stood out more. RH Tokyo’s moves were sharp, their choreo was detailed, and their outfit change was awesome. Nonetheless, due to the overwhelming number of views and likes, BUMSUP secured the win.
Elimination Battle
Many anticipated OSAKA Ojo Gang to be in the elimination face-off, given their lack of choreographing expertise, but Royal Family going up against them? That was something no one saw coming.
Each battle round was absolutely jaw-dropping – every time, I was on tenterhooks, wondering if anyone would reach the three-round wins. Seriously, every performance was intense and full of energy, with every dancer giving it their all to protect their team. Even behind a screen, you could feel the tension, the pressure, and the emotions. You could tell each crew, especially OSAKA Ojo Gang’s Leader, Ibuki, was desperate to save their team.
I do want to highlight that while I did hear the hype about how OSAKA Ojo Gang’s Kyoka was a great street dancer, seeing her in action was the real confirmation. She’s got that effortless stage presence where she doesn’t need loud and flashy big moves. The way she moves, grooves, and dances to every beat screams years of experience. (Is it just me, or is she kinda giving “Bada Lee” vibes???)
When it comes to Ibuki, it wasn’t just her waacking skills that stood out — it was that sheer confidence she had. The “I will win” vibe is what made her stand out in the last battle round. And the way she mimed the act of taking Royal Family’s crown and tossing it away? Pure badass!
So, no wonder OSAKA Ojo Gang bagged the win.
Final Thoughts
Next up, we have the Mega Crew Mission!
While the videos are already out and blowing up on social media, remember that there are many elements that come into play. We can never truly guess which team truly shone the most and which one was the weakest. So, let’s not jump to any conclusions yet and stay tuned for our next review!
