In an unprecedented moment for K-pop, JUST B’s Bain came out as queer during a concert.
On April 22 (local time), during the Los Angeles stop of JUST B’s world tour ‘JUST ODD,’ group member Bain stated, “I am proud to be part of the LGBT community,” coming out as queer. The idol followed the declaration with a powerful performance of Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way ’ while waving a rainbow flag.

A day later, Bain took to his Instagram to share the same message and wrote, “I want to share something real with you. I’m proud to be a part of the LGBTQ+ community — as a gay person. And my queen Lady Gaga showed me that being different is beautiful. To anyone out there who’s part of the LGBTQ+ community, or still figuring it out — this is for you. You are seen, you are loved, and you were born this way.🏳️🌈”
Following this, JUST B’s agency, BLUEDOT Entertainment, stated, “Since this pertains to Bain’s personal life and sexual identity, it is difficult for us to provide a separate statement.”
Notably, Bain is the first member of a K-pop idol group to officially come out as gay. Following his statement, fans and fellow artists like the LGBTQ+ group LIONESSES and soloist AleXa have shown him immense love and support.
In late March, global girl group KATSEYE’s Lara also came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community through Weverse. Earlier, in 2018, soloist Holland came out as gay, becoming the first openly gay K-pop idol. Former Wassup member Jiae, Som Hevin, and AQUINAS are among other Korean artists who have come out as queer, while 2AM’s Jo Kwon previously came out as genderless.
Bain’s bold and proud declaration adds to the growing calls for diversity and representation in K-pop and may mark the first step toward a culture where all artists feel free to be themselves.
