NEWBEAT Makes A Smashing Debut With Their First Full Album ‘RAW AND RAD’

NEWBEAT has officially stepped into the music scene with their debut album, ‘RAW AND RAD,’ led by the title track, ‘Flip the Coin.’

On March 24, NEWBEAT made their official debut with their first full-length album, ‘RAW AND RAD,’ accompanied by the music video for its title track, ‘Flip the Coin.’ Their debut follows two pre-release singles, ‘JeLLo (Sleepers)’ and ‘HICCUPS.’ In an unconventional decision, the group chose to make their debut with a full album instead of a mini-album as is the norm in K-pop. With ‘RAW AND RAD,’ the group aims to showcase their musical diversity and connect with audiences worldwide.

The album features 10 tracks: ‘Intro: RAW AND RAD’ ft. ‘Khundi Panda’, ‘Sounds Like Money’, ‘JeLLo (Sleepers)’, ‘HICCUPS’, ‘You, Me +,-‘, ‘Flip the Coin,’ ‘F.L.Y (Fu**ing Lovely, Lonely Youth)’, ‘Wonder’, ‘We Are Young’, and ‘Outro: ZERO-SUM GAME’. The album also contains a bonus track which is only available in the CD version.

The album captures the bold and fearless essence of the NEWBEAT members, showcasing their unwavering determination to move forward despite any challenges or setbacks. While highlighting their strength, the album also reveals their more vulnerable side, allowing listeners to connect on a deeper level.

The title track, ‘Flip the Coin,’ conveys the idea that concepts of “good” and “bad”—or the two sides of a coin—are shaped by perspective. The lyrics reference a well-known line from Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’: “Fair is foul, and foul is fair.”

Among the standout tracks is ‘F.L.Y (Fu**ing Lovely, Lonely Youth),’ produced by BTOB’s LIM HYUNSIK. This song delves into the beauty and solitude of youth, reflecting the complexities of growing up. Another notable addition is ‘Wonder,’ a solo track by NEWBEAT’s Jeon Yeoyeojeong. Set at an American prom, the song tells the story of a boy serenading a girl, neither realizing that their feelings for each other are mutual.

To celebrate their debut, NEWBEAT took the stage on Mnet’s live broadcast at 8 PM KST, performing ‘Flip the Coin’, ‘JeLLo,’ ‘HICCUPS,’ and ‘F.L.Y.’

NEWBEAT is a seven-member group under BEAT INTERACTIVE, consisting of Park Minseok, Hong Minsung, Jeon Yeoyeojeong, Choi Seohyun, Kim Taeyang, Jo Yunhu, and Kim Riwoo. In July and August of 2024, the group held a busking tour, ‘HIGH&LOW Donuts,’ where they collaborated and performed with multiple dance crews in the U.S. Previously known as HinLOVE, the members have participated in music videos and performances for A.C.E at KCON LA and other stages.
