Veteran actress Jang Mi Ja has passed away at the age of 84.
On January 27, the Korean Broadcasting Actors’ Union confirmed that actress Jang Mi Ja, best known for her role as the mother-in-law in the drama ‘Couple Clinic – Love and War’ had passed away due to health complications.
Jang Mi Ja began her career in 1962 with the play ‘Without the Pain of Breaking the Shell.’ In 1963, she joined DBS (Dong-Ah Broadcasting System) as one of their first voice actors. From there, she transitioned to television and became recognized for her impressive performances.
In her career spanning over 60 years, she has starred in many popular dramas, such as ‘The Second Republic,’ ‘The Sons of Sol Pharmacy,’ and ‘Believing in Love.’ She gained much acclaim for her role as a harsh mother-in-law in the SBS drama ‘Couple Clinic – Love and War,’ which aired from 2000 onwards. In November 2024, Jang Mi Ja was performing on stage with her husband, Park Woong, in the play ‘Dancing Silver Portrait’.
Jang Mi Ja is survived by her husband, Park Woong, and two sons. Her funeral service is set to take place at the Seoul National University Hospital on January 29, at 6 AM KST (2:30 AM IST).
